Light The Tower ("the app") is an independent, non-commercial project. This policy explains, plainly, what data the app collects and how it's used. There isn't much to it.
What we collect
When you allow notifications, the app registers a device push token with our server. It's an opaque identifier used only to deliver push notifications: on iPhone, Apple generates it for Apple's Push Notification service (APNs); on Android, Google generates it for Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). That's the only piece of data the app collects or stores.
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account information. There is no account or login.
- Your location
- Analytics, usage tracking, or advertising identifiers
- Any data from third-party analytics or ad SDKs. The app doesn't include any. (The Android app includes Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging library, which is needed to receive notifications; Firebase Analytics is not included.)
How we use it
The device token is used solely to send you a push notification when the UT Tower's lighting configuration changes. Nothing else.
Who we share it with
Your device token is shared with Apple's Push Notification service on iPhone, or Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android, which is required to deliver the notification to your device. This is a standard part of how push notifications work on each platform. On Android, Firebase Cloud Messaging also uses a Firebase installation ID, an identifier for this installation of the app, to deliver messages; it is handled by Google under the Firebase privacy terms. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone else, and there is no advertising in the app.
How long we keep it
Your token is kept while the app is installed. After you uninstall the app, Apple or Google reports the token as no longer valid the next time a notification is sent; our server then stops using it and permanently deletes it within 30 days. You can also request deletion at any time. See the contact info below.
Deleting your data
The only data the app stores is the device push token described above. It isn't linked to your name, email address, or any account, so there's no account to sign in to or delete.
To remove your token, uninstall the app. The token then stops working, our server deactivates it the next time a notification is sent, and it's permanently deleted within 30 days.

Hosting
The app's backend runs on standard web hosting infrastructure, which may log basic technical information (like IP addresses) for routine security and reliability purposes, as most hosting providers do. This isn't something the app itself collects or has access to.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If anything about our data practices changes, this page will be updated with a new effective date.
